Celebrating our Independence
While many of us, me included, enjoy celebrating 4th of July festivities, it occurred to me that this might also be a great time to revisit our history and re read the Declaration of Independence. Many great leaders have said “we must know our history; lest we repeat it”. So, it seems logically that now would be the ideal time to re read and understand better the men who fought and made this Nation great!
The average age of men fighting in the Continental Army was just 16 years old! Think about it – most current teenage boys have just starting driving and hopefully many are working their first job… (another story for another time). Can you imagine the maturity of men signing up to fight for The United States of America and compare to our current population of 16 year olds?
Our founding fathers, in my opinion, were blessed with wisdom beyond their years and led by the Holy Spirit to draft our founding documents.
We are a blessed nation to be founded upon Christian Judea Principals and it served us well for awhile…. which is why I believe this is a good time to revisit our founding documents.
We must know our Rights and start with our Declaration of Independence which begins acknowledging:
…”that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness“..
The government’s job IS TO SECURE OUR RIGHTS of life, liberty and happiness. This means to me for a sense of security, economic stability, and for a vision of a better life. This is what the Colonists believed and fought for.
We (America) is like the frog in the boiling pot! There has been a slow dissolve of our rights, we didn’t realize we were giving them up! Yes, I said we gave them up. We haven’t push back, we didn’t argue, we got sucked into the “hype” of “turning the other cheek” by some people who thought good Christians should keep their mouths shut.
Well, that has bitten us in the butt! To me, this is why socialism pushes “complacency”.
Just go with it; don’t argue – it does no good. Nothing is going to change anyway. What does it hurt? It doesn’t affect you or me…. yadda, yadda, yadda….
We are now in the boiling water and we realize the water is H O T! It’s time to tell the “naysayers” to shut up; sit down – we are not taking their crap any longer!
The brief list of grievances that brought about our freedoms (Sounds like the present time, doesn’t it?).
- obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers
- made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries
- erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people
- imposing Taxes on us without our Consent
- For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
- has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people
- has excited domestic insurrections amongst us
By our founding documents; they (our government) HAS NO POWER! WE THE PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER AND ITS TIME TO TAKE OUR AUTHORITY OVER IT once again!
Remember, knowledge is power. Begin learning today what our freedoms are so we can fight to protect them.
Our Declaration wasn’t just for us, but the world!
